Niu Niu is an artist working between Europe and Asia, with a bicultural background rooted in both Chinese and Dutch heritage. His upbringing across these regions has shaped a unique way of seeing, one that is observant, adaptive, and constantly searching for points of connection. This perspective has resulted in a lasting curiosity for people and places, which remains central to their work.
Photography became a way for Niu Niu to navigate new environments, engage with local communities, and explore how identity is expressed through style, gesture, and attitude. His work often centers on individuals who use appearance as a form of storytelling, particularly within youth culture and subcultural movements.
While completing a BA in Fine Art: Photography, Niu Niu spent a year in Tokyo conducting research and working in the creative industry. This experience further deepened their interest in visual culture and collaborative processes. Whether through editorial commissions, independent publications like Niu Niu Magazine, or exhibitions, his imagery aims to be expressive, layered, and grounded in real encounters.
